Welcome to Grace

Welcome to Grace United Methodist Church!!  The history goes back 175+ years and yet every day is a new day in God’s kingdom!  The people of Grace are challenged to be in ministry in every setting, every relationship of their lives.

Worship services are informal, and include traditional hymns all the way to new tunes you hear on the radio.  Attire ranges from “dressy” to blue jeans or shorts.  But regardless of preferences musical or fashion, everyone participates as we seek to celebrate and be challenged by God who calls us to new ways of living and relating.

Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The purpose of the Christian Church is really pretty simple. It is to be the context where people discover and live out the command of Jesus Christ to…

“Love the Lord your God with all your passion, prayer, muscle and intelligence — and love your neighbor as well as you love
yourself.” (Luke 10:27 The Message)

A second purpose sprouts from the first. We send people out to make a difference in the world. This comes from Matthew 28:19 & 20:

Jesus … gave his charge: “Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life… Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.”

Writing after the life of Jesus, another Bible author said this about the work of the Church, in Ephesians 4:11-12:

“God gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ …”

In a document of the United Methodist Church, it’s written that:

The Church of Jesus Christ exists in and for the world. It is primarily at the level of the local church that the Church encounters the world. The local church is a strategic base from which Christians move out into the structures of society. (The Book of Discipline of the UMC)

We have a great time at Grace United Methodist Church getting to know God and one another. But we also know our mission is to make Christ known in the very places and relationships of our daily lives.

We are not afraid to try, to risk, to question

A culture and attitude of grace and love make this possible.

We are not clergy or staff dependent

Every person is gifted to be in ministry in some way to serve God and their neighbor.

Connection, communication, and coordination

Connection, communication, and coordination of people, vision, and activities are essential. We seek the alignment of groups, efforts and resources with the mission and priorities.

Membership means something

In the United Methodist Church, the Communion Table is “open” to anyone and everyone. For those people who wish to take their commitment deeper, to become a “member” of Grace Church means a person pledges:

  • Prayers: for others, the Church and the world.
  • Presence: at worship unless sick or out of town.
  • Money: joyfully giving “first fruits.”
  • Service: offering oneself to serve God in the church and world.
  • Witness: extending invitation to others to the Christ-following life.
